The School of Buisness, Economics and Law
The first plans of founding the School of Business, Economics and Law was made in the 19th centuary.
The trade-city of Gothenburg needed an institution to educate people for leading positions within the trade-industry. The number of students grew continiously, from 9 students in 1923 to around 4000 in the 80´s. In 1971 the School of Business, Economics and Law was shut down. The city had decided to gather all education in economics at Gothenburg University. The new system soon got disliked, critisism occured that the big number of students had negative effects on the quality of the education. In 1986 the School of Business, Economics and Law was reopened, now as a school within the University of Gothenburg. As the
years have past the school has been more and more liberated from Gothenburg University and is now allowed to have its own logotype etc. Today, around 6600 students are studying at least one course at the school which has around 400 employees, including 40 professors, 40 senoir lecturers
and 159 teachers/researchers. Total revenues where 362 milion Swedish crowns in 2008 (around 33 million euros).
