Chalmers
Chalmers was founded in 1829 with money from the will of William Chalmers, a manager within the far-east trade company. Once one of the wealthiest businesses in Sweden. Chalmers was founded under the name “Chalmerska slöjdskolan” meaning in direct translation “Chalmers school of handicraft”. In the first year, the school had nine students and three teachers. They where educated in the subjects of mathematics, psysics, chemistry, construction of mechanical models and drawing technique. As the school grew it started to recieve gouvernmental funding in 1936. During the years Chalemrs was more and more integrated in the public educational system. In 1994 Chalmers decided to go back into being independent again and changed its status from being a public school of higher learning into a independent foundation.
Chalmers is today considered as one of Swedens best schools for studying science and students often recieve good jobs after graduation.
