Last minute film tips

The Gothenburg International Film Festival runs from Jan 29 to Feb 8. It is one of the biggest events on the Gothenburg calendar and over 120,000 tickets are sold annually.

This year there are just under 450 films to choose from. If you are still in the market for last minute tickets, here are some tips from the organisers.

R – The festival’s toughest and most exciting film. Innovative, surprising and form safe. A brilliant Danish debut!

NIGHT AND FOG
– Ann Hui is not a big name in Sweden, but in Hong Kong, she is a renowned filmmaker with a long career. Night and Fog is a powerful and engaging drama from a director with great social pathos.

KILL THE REFEREE
– This documentary follows the behind the scenes of a group of referees during the European championships 2008. Revealing, interesting and funny.

FISH CHILD
– The Argentinian Mulholland Drive, where a lesbian couple is drawn into a dramatic turn of events. A beautiful visual experience! Nominated for The Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award.

RAGE – Do not miss the Orlando-director Sally Potter’s visit to the festival! Her new film is about a murder on the catwalk. Experimental and with great actors like Jude Law, Steve Buscemi and Judi Dench.
